One of the best of the German-produced Edgar Wallace thrillers, this film features a batch of surprisingly graphic murders and a severely warped story that involves a creepy mansion where a fortune is hidden. It seems that the family patriarch has hidden it behind a door that has seven locks, and nearly everyone that appears onscreen is after what’s behind that door. Toss in a mad scientist conducting genetic experiments in the basement, and you’ve got a fast-paced and entertaining thriller.
Of course, there is a heroine (SABINE SESSELMANN) who is not aware that she is an heiress, a seedy, whiny underworld squealer begging for his life (KLAUS KINSKI), and a stoic, heroic Scotland Yard Policeman (HEINZ DRACHE) who saves the day and gets to romance the leading lady. HEINZ DRACHE and KLAUS KINSKI also appeared together in Indian Scarf, The Avenger, The Squeaker and Psycho Circus. Director ALFRED VOHRER helmed School of Fear and The Hunchback of Soho.
